Victoria Park City of Glasgow Athletes Enjoy Successful Day at Ayr
Victoria Park City of Glasgow athletes once again delivered another excellent set of performances at Match 2 of the Youth Development League Division 2 competition at Ayrshire Athletics Arena. Competing in warm sunshine throughout the day, there was a fantastic atmosphere around the track and field as enthusiastic young athletes represented the club superbly across all event groups.
Victoria Park finished 4th overall in the league standings with 270 match points and moved into 4th place overall in the division standings on 9 league points after two matches. The club also placed 3rd in the overall Points for Performance table, underlining the quality of performances produced across the team.
The U16 Girls squad produced a particularly strong performance, winning their age-group competition with 92 points.
Outstanding Performances
There were excellent performances throughout the day, with a number of Victoria Park athletes finishing at the top end of their events.
Isla Thomson continued her excellent form by winning the U16 Girls 200m in 26.52 and placing 2nd in the 100m in 13.16.
Amy Pender again starred in the throws, winning the U16 Girls Discus with 27.16m and also winning the Shot Put with 9.69m. Amy’s discus performance placed her among the top scoring athletes of the entire meeting.
Ali Ismael secured maximum points in the U16 Boys Pole Vault, clearing an impressive 3.23m.
In the middle-distance events, Rowan Campbell placed 3rd in the U16 Girls 800m with 2:31.55, while Lola Camptonwon the B string race in 2:33.23.
The U14 athletes also impressed throughout the day. Anna O’Neill placed 3rd in the U14 Girls 200m in 29.80, while Emily Cochrane won the U14 Girls Discus with a throw of 17.68m.
Strong performances also came from Reuben Tinkler, who finished 3rd in the U14 Boys 800m, Gregor Davidson, who scored valuable points in both the Discus and Javelin, and the U14 Boys 4x100m relay team of Jamie MacDonald, Hugo Meikle, James MacLeod and Caleb Baldwin, who secured 2nd place.

With so many enthusiastic young athletes competing and supporting one another throughout the day, the match was another excellent advertisement for the strength and spirit of the club.
