Victoria Park athletes collect 30 medals at Scottish Championships

Victoria Park City of Glasgow AC enjoyed an outstanding two weekends at the 2026 Scottish Championships, with athletes across the age groups, senior events and para programme collecting an impressive 30 medals – seven gold, 13 silver and ten bronze.

The championships began at Grangemouth Stadium on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August with the U14, U16 and U20 programme, before attention moved north to Aberdeen Sports Village on 29 and 30 August for the U18 and Senior Championships with Parallel Success.

Across the two weekends, 23 different Victoria Park athletes reached the podium, with several returning home with more than one medal.

Nine medals at Grangemouth

The opening weekend produced nine medals – one gold, five silver and three bronze.

One of the outstanding Victoria Park performances came from Amy Pender, who became Scottish U16 discus champion with a winning throw of 28.74m. Amy completed an excellent weekend by adding bronze in the U16 shot put with 10.08m. 

On the track, Isla Thomson claimed silver in the U16 300m, running 41.17, while Angus Macleod took bronze in the U20 110m hurdles in 15.71. 

There was an excellent contribution from Victoria Park’s pole vaulters. Ali Ismail cleared 3.53m for silver in the U16 boys’ competition, while the U20 women’s event produced two VP medallists: Rebecca Digger took silver with 2.73m and Liesl Cable bronze with 2.23m. 

The throws brought further success. Skye Davidson won U20 javelin silver with 37.72m, while Lucy Kernahan took silver in the U20 discus with 35.19m.

Twenty-one medals at Aberdeen

A week later, Victoria Park enjoyed an even bigger medal haul at Aberdeen Sports Village, collecting 21 medals – six gold, eight silver and seven bronze.

On the track, Lorne Kerr was crowned Scottish Senior 400m champion, winning in 54.61.

Lucy Fraser had another superb championship. She took silver in the Senior 100m, finishing second in 11.63, before going one better in the 200m to win the Scottish title in 24.15. 

There was a particularly close finish in the U18 men’s 400m hurdles. George Scott recorded 58.25, exactly the same time to two decimal places as Ireland Development’s Adill Prochownik, with the electronic timing separating them by just seven thousandths of a second. George was placed second and collected silver.

Becky Dunphy added another silver in the Senior women’s 3000m steeplechase, finishing in 11:56.94, while Arianna Carmichael secured bronze in the U20 women’s 5000m medal classification with 19:15.46. 

Victoria Park also enjoyed considerable success in the jumps. Ruaridh Brewer cleared 3.95m for silver in the U18 pole vault.

In the Senior women’s triple jump, Silver Nwabuzor took gold with 12.36m, while the Senior women’s long jump produced two more medals as Holly Kirkwood jumped 5.82m for silver and Anna Cameron took bronze with 5.76m. 

Throws deliver a huge medal haul

The throws were particularly productive for Victoria Park in Aberdeen.

Euan Urquhart became Scottish Senior shot put champion with 15.04m, with clubmate Andrew Peck taking bronze with 13.36m. Andrew also collected silver in the Senior discus with an excellent 52.13m. 

Katie Ord won silver in the Senior women’s hammer with 50.69m, while David Lees also took silver in the Senior men’s javelin, throwing 52.47m. 

Having already won U20 discus silver at Grangemouth, Lucy Kernahan completed an outstanding championship campaign with two U18 bronze medals in Aberdeen – 47.12m in the hammer and 34.75m in the discus. 

Skye Davidson was another athlete to medal on both weekends. Following her U20 javelin silver at Grangemouth, she threw 39.25m to take U18 javelin bronze in Aberdeen.

In the Senior women’s discus, Haley Elliott secured bronze with 38.32m.

There was also a double gold medal success for Kirsty Soutar in the Parallel Success programme. Kirsty won the Seated Club competition with 15.10m and the Seated Discus with 7.82m.

Perhaps the most impressive feature of the championships was the breadth of the success. Medals came in sprints, hurdles, endurance events, jumps, throws and seated throws, from U16 athletes right through to the Senior ranks.

Lucy Kernahan was the club’s most prolific individual medallist, winning three medals across the two weekends, while Amy Pender, Lucy Fraser, Skye Davidson, Andrew Peck and Kirsty Soutar each collected two.

For Victoria Park, 30 national championship medals from 23 different athletes represents a tremendous return and a very encouraging indication of the depth of talent currently competing in the blue and white hoops.
