Athletes With A Disability
Inclusive Athletics for Everyone
At VP-Glasgow, we are proud to provide an inclusive and welcoming environment for athletes with a disability aged from 8 years through to senior level. Over the past twelve years, our disability athletics section has continued to grow, supporting athletes of all abilities to develop confidence, fitness, friendships, and competitive opportunities within athletics and sport.Â
Our athletes participate regularly in competitions and events organised by the club, Scottish Disability Sport and Special Olympics Great Britain, helping athletes achieve their goals both recreationally and competitively, nationally and internationally.
We currently support:
- Athletes with learning disabilities
- Athletes with Cerebral Palsy competing in athletics events
- An expanding Frame Running section for athletes with Cerebral Palsy
- Athletes with visual impairment, as we have guide runners
The disability group trains every Wednesday evening from 7:00pm – 8:30pm in a supportive, fun, and athlete-centred environment.

Frame Running at VP-Glasgow
VP-Glasgow is committed to growing and developing opportunities in Frame Running for athletes with Cerebral Palsy and related physical disabilities.
Frame Running is an athletics discipline using a specially designed three-wheeled running frame which includes a saddle and body support plate. Athletes propel themselves using their feet while steering with their hands or arms, allowing individuals with mobility impairments to experience the freedom and enjoyment of movement and athletic participation.
Frame Running offers significant benefits including:
- Improved fitness and physical strength
- Increased confidence and independence
- Enhanced mental health and wellbeing
- Social inclusion and friendship opportunities
- Greater engagement with physical activity and physiotherapy
For many children and adults with Cerebral Palsy, Frame Running provides the opportunity to experience movement, speed, competition, and fun alongside peers with similar experiences.
Our club currently supports four Frame Running athletes and is actively working alongside Scottish Athletics and Scottish Disability Sport to deliver coaching education opportunities across Cerebral Palsy and other disability strands.
At present, the club is borrowing Frame Running trikes from athletics clubs across Scotland while we continue to expand and develop the programme.

Boccia Programme
Alongside athletics training, VP-Glasgow also runs a Boccia group on Wednesday evenings for individuals with complex needs. Boccia provides an accessible, inclusive, and enjoyable opportunity for participants to develop coordination, social interaction, and confidence within a supportive club environment.

Creating Opportunities Through Sport
At VP-Glasgow, we believe athletics should be accessible to everyone. Our disability section continues to grow because of the commitment of our coaches, volunteers, athletes, and families who work together to create an inclusive sporting community where everyone can participate, achieve, and belong.
Whether athletes wish to compete at events, improve fitness, develop friendships, or simply enjoy being active, VP-Glasgow provides opportunities for all abilities to thrive through sport.
