Coaching Groups

U11 & U13 Foundation Group (Ages 8-12)

  • Our U11 and U13 groups focus on building a solid foundation in athletics. They get the opportunity to try out all the running, jumping, and throwing events while learning the fundamental movements.Our coach coordinator creates training plans for the coaches to follow, ensuring that the sessions are structured and aimed at developing confidence in the sport. These sessions also help prepare athletes for competition, getting them ready for their first competition.

    Sessions:

    • Monday - Thursday: 17:30 - 19:00 & 19:00 - 20:30
    • Saturdays: 11:00 - 12:30

    Coaching: Led by qualified Level 1 & Level 2 coaches using structured plans from our Coach Coordinator.

    Membership: Open to all Victoria Park members (U11-U13) who pay monthly training fees. Attend as many sessions as you like

Sprint Groups (U15+)

We offer tiered sprint training to match experience and goals:

Development Sprint Group: New sprinters, those new to competition, or athletes looking to build some confidence in the sport. The groups focuses on fundamental running techniques, speed development and conditioning in a supportive and friendly environment. This group runs Monday to Thursday from 19:00 - 20:30.

Intermediate Sprint Group: This group is aimed at athletes who have had previous competition experience. Focusing on structured training for both the indoor and outdoor seasons, technique refinement and performance progression. This includes regular testing to help athletes measure and track performance throughout the season.This group runs Monday to Thursday from 19:00 - 20:30.

Event-Level Sprint Group (Selection Only):   This group is for the club’s top-performing sprinters who are working towards high-level competition. Athletes in this group have achieved strong results in their events, with some representing their country at international level. Training sessions take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7.00pm to 8.30pm.

 All sprint groups help athletes reach their full potential.

High Jump (U15+)

Our high jump sessions are led by knowledgeable coaches who are able to cater for all abilities whether that is just starting out for the first time to competing nationally for the club. We have high jump sessions on a Thursday from 19:00-20:30 and a Saturday morning from 11:00-12:30. 

Long Jump (U15+)

Our long jump training is designed to support athletes at all stages of development, from athletes looking to learn correct technique and a proper run up to those preparing for competition. Sessions focus on improving technique, speed on the runway, and take-off power. Coaching is delivered by experienced coaches, with Haley Elliott leading sessions on Mondays and Richard Papworth on Thursdays. Richard also provides some support for athletes in the triple jump.

Sessions:

  • Thursday: 19:00 – 20:30 (Coach: Richard Papworth) 

Throws Group (Discus, Javelin, Shot Put, Hammer)

Our throws group is open to athletes of all abilities, from beginners learning the basics of technique to those progressing towards higher-level competition. Training is led by throws coach Gordon Innes, who provides structured guidance across all four throws events.  

Regular Sessions:

  • Monday: 19:00 – 20:30

  • Tuesday: 19:00 – 20:30

  • Thursday: 19:00 – 20:30 

 Experienced/Senior Sessions:

  • Monday: 19:00 – 20:30

  • Tuesday: 19:00 – 20:30

  • Thursday: 19:00 – 20:30 

  • Saturday: 11:00-12:30

Endurance Group

Our endurance group focuses on developing athletes for track events from 800m upwards, as well as cross country during the winter season. Training sessions are designed to build strength, stamina, and race preparation, with structured coaching support throughout the year.

Sessions:

  • Tuesday: 19:00 – 20:30

  • Thursday: 19:00 – 20:30

  • Saturday mornings: Cross country training (winter only)

Road Runners (18+)

Hurdles

Our hurdles programme is designed to support athletes at all levels, from those learning the basics for the first time to experienced hurdlers aiming to refine their technique and performance. Sessions are led by coach Moira Jordan.

Sessions:

  • Monday: 18:00 – 19:00 (Beginners)

  • Monday: 19:00 – 20:30 (Experienced hurdlers)

Pole Vault (U15+)

Our pole vault group is aimed at athletes who already have a solid athletic foundation and are keen to learn and develop in this specialist event. Sessions provide technical instruction and safe progression, giving athletes the opportunity to build confidence and skill.

Disability Athletics Group (All Ages & Abilities)

This group provides tailored sessions in a welcoming and supportive environment, making athletics accessible for all. While the main focus is on sprint training, athletes also have the opportunity to explore other track and field events.

Specialty: The group includes a thriving Frame Running section and offers participation in club-level throwing events.

Benefits: Athletes are encouraged to compete, become part of the athletics community, and work towards achieving personal bests.
